A day in the life of a sales assistant
More than just coffee and pastries

When the aroma of fresh bread, warm croissants and coffee wafts through the shop in the morning, our sales team’s working day often gets off to an early start.

But before the first customers order their coffee or buy their favourite bread, there’s already plenty going on behind the scenes. Gaby takes us through her day-to-day life on the shop floor.

Depending on the branch, our shop staff start as early as 5.30 am. Freshly baked bread is put out, the patisserie is lovingly prepared and the sandwich counter is restocked. Step by step, the shelves in the specialist shop fill up, and the shop is slowly getting ready for the start of the day.

Just before the doors open, every movement is perfectly timed – and the first customers are already in the shop.

As well as restocking the shelves and checking orders, one thing takes centre stage above all else: personal contact.

That is exactly what Gaby particularly likes about her job.

“A smile is enough to brighten someone’s day first thing in the morning.”

The team now knows many regular customers so well that their order is often ready before they’ve even spoken. It is precisely these little interactions that make everyday life in retail so personal.

No two days are the same

Working in sales requires organisation, team spirit and flexibility – especially at lunchtime, when things get hectic. Nevertheless, Gaby really appreciates this dynamic: “Together as a team, we tackle every challenge – even when things get really intense.”

Bachmann as an employer

Gaby started out as a regular sales assistant in our family business. During her three years with us, she progressed first to deputy branch manager and eventually to branch manager at one of our specialist shops. “I’ve also had the opportunity to attend several training sessions and leadership courses, which help me in my day-to-day role as my team’s manager.” “I’m proud that I’ve been able to develop so much, both personally and professionally.”

Sales is about much more than just selling products

Behind every moment of enjoyment lies more than meets the eye: planning, teamwork, attention to detail and, above all, a great deal of warmth.

Gaby’s closing quote: “It is often the little encounters that make all the difference – for our customers just as much as for our team.”
