A day as a cake specialist - Creative handicrafts for special moments

Cake specialist – what exactly does this job involve? From the outside, all you really see are the finished cakes in the display case. But before they go on to adorn birthday tables, weddings or anniversary celebrations, a great deal of manual work goes into them. Anja, the decoration team leader, gives an insight into her day-to-day work and shows what makes the job of a cake specialist so special.

In the Decoration Department, all the cakes receive their finishing touches. They are garnished, decorated and personalised with inscriptions. With such a wide selection of different cake designs, no two orders are ever the same. It is precisely this variety that makes every day exciting.

But the work doesn’t stop with the cakes themselves. Many decorative elements are also created right there in the department. Small flowers, butterflies and other embellishments are crafted by hand before they find their place on the cakes.

Handcrafted down to the very last detail

The figure modelling is particularly impressive. Anja and her team make the figures for the cakes themselves. With a great deal of patience, they create lions, elephants, crocodiles and many other animals that later make children’s eyes light up.

What looks simple actually requires a great deal of precision. Every figure is modelled by hand and lovingly crafted. For Anja, it is precisely this attention to detail that makes her work so rewarding.

The best moment?

‘When I see how delighted our customers are with our cakes and know that we can make a special occasion even more wonderful.’

Creativity is what makes everyday life special

Whether it’s a wedding, a birthday or an anniversary: there’s a personal story behind every order. That’s exactly what Anja loves most about her job. Every cake is one of a kind and is designed not only to taste good, but also to create a ‘wow’ moment.

“Our cakes make every party unforgettable,” says Anja. And when you watch her at work, you soon realise: this isn’t just about decoration, but about creating with a great deal of passion.

Bachmann as an employer

What makes Bachmann special for Anja? As well as creativity, she cites the team above all else. “We’re like a family. Even though the Bach team is so big, everything remains very personal. I really value that, and my team.”

You can really feel that during the working day. Everyone works with great focus, yet there’s plenty of laughter and everyone supports one another. Team spirit is just as important to Anja as the joy she gets from her creative craft.
