Sustainable Packaging

“Bakery is an energy-intensive craft, which is why we pay very close attention to the economical and ecological use of energy.”
This principle is actively applied in various areas – including packaging – and is continuously promoted with a focus on sustainability. The company also participates in voluntary climate protection programs and in optimizing energy efficiency.

Meal Packaging
Our meal packaging is made from FSC-certified, unbleached, uncoated kraft board. The coating, which prevents moisture and grease from seeping through, consists of a biopolymer film that is industrially compostable. We place great importance on ecology and sustainability: Paper and cutting waste generated during production are collected and returned to recycling. For printing, water-based inks are used, and for gluing, environmentally friendly adhesives.

Disposable Cutlery
Our black forks, spoons, and knives are made from Crystallized Polylactic Acid (CPLA)1. This material is plastic-free and therefore biodegradable. It is produced from agricultural by-products or based on rapidly renewable raw materials of plant origin. In this way, fossil resources are preserved in a sustainable manner. Valuable by-products that would otherwise be discarded are given a meaningful reuse. All raw materials used are 100% biodegradable.

Reusable Coffee Cups
To reduce single-use coffee cups, customers benefit from a loyalty discount plus an additional CHF 0.30 off coffee or tea to go – while protecting the environment at the same time. Our “Keep Cup” reusable coffee cup is available free of charge with 900 loyalty points and offers the following advantages:

  • Free from toxins such as BPA, phthalates, PVC, and polycarbonates
  • Keeps hot drinks warm for around 20–30 minutes
  • Fully recyclable without residue
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Durable for up to four years and 1,000 refills
  • Equipped with a silicone band for heat protection
  • Fits in most car and bicycle cup holders
  • Extremely lightweight

Disposable Coffee Cups
Our paper coffee cups are FSC-certified. The FSC label stands for sustainable forest management and includes:

  • Business planning appropriate to the size of the forest
  • Sustainable levels of cultivation and harvesting
  • Protection of biodiversity and special consideration of protected areas
  • Provision of diverse, high-quality products for optimal use of natural resources
  • Establishment of tree species appropriate to the location

Carrier Bags
In addition to paper bags, we also offer EPI bags made from corn starch and completely plastic-free. EPI’s TDPA™-based technology was developed to control and manage the lifespan of products made from the most common plastics in modern society. This technology allows polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS) products to degrade into environmentally friendly components within months to a few years – compared to decades or longer for conventional plastics without this technology.

Cake Packaging
For more than 30 years, we have been working with CAG Cartonagen AG in Stans and greatly value this partnership. CAG is a Central Swiss manufacturer of packaging materials and produces, among other items, cake boxes for us. We place great importance on short transport routes and local proximity.

Salad Bowls
Our RPET salad bowls are made from at least 50% recycled material. Today, all PET products from Sabert are guaranteed to be made from a minimum of 50% recycled material. For our transparent products, Sabert has received approval from the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) for the use of RPET based on PCR (post-consumer recycled PET) in its production processes. This modern process is considered the best on the market for recycling used PET products.

Straws and Stir Sticks
For our straws, we use PLA.
For our stir sticks, we no longer use plastic – only wood.

Sometimes a perfect product can be made even better by enhancing its advantages. This is the case with Polylactic Acid (PLA), which is the raw material for Crystallized Polylactic Acid (CPLA). Tableware made from PLA consists entirely of rapidly renewable raw materials. PLA has only one drawback: it cannot withstand high temperatures. A special process transforms PLA into CPLA, during which the raw material crystallizes, the color becomes milky, the material becomes dimensionally stable, and heat-resistant up to 85°C. For naturesse CPLA products, pure PLA is used – no mixed compounds. Thus, the result is a truly pure natural product.
