Environment & Energy

Climate action

Confiseur Bachmann AG is committed to climate protection. By voluntarily signing up to the Energy Agency for Industry’s programme for a period of 10 years, Bachmann has pledged to actively reduce its CO₂ emissions and optimise its energy efficiency. The corresponding target agreement has been audited by the federal government and is supported by the City of Lucerne as part of the ‘energisch optimieren – Energy Efficiency for Businesses’ initiative.

A concrete example of our efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions is our heat recovery system, in which we have invested over one million Swiss francs in recent years. This complex system uses the waste heat from our furnaces and cooling systems to produce domestic hot water for 170 households in the city of Lucerne, as well as for our entire production site. Incidentally, the site is also heated using the recovered heat. Heat recovery is our contribution to the 2000-watt society in the city of Lucerne.

Green Smiley Award

Confiseur Bachmann AG was nominated for the 2012 Green Smiley Award for its ‘Schutzengeli’ product and the resulting Bachmann Foundation. From among the 10 finalists, Heineken Switzerland recognised restaurateurs who are committed to sustainability for people and the environment.

As part of the ‘Brewing a Better Future’ initiative, Heineken Switzerland launched the Green Smiley Award in November 2011. The company aims to actively involve its customers in the hospitality sector in its corporate sustainability efforts.

100% green electricity

To set another example in our industry, since 1 January 2013 we have been the first confectionery and bakery in Central Switzerland to produce our fine treats using 100 per cent green electricity.

This means we rely 100 % on renewable energy, with guaranteed quality. Our electricity comes from wind power and certified hydroelectric power stations in Switzerland. Wind, solar and biomass round out our electricity supply. When investing in our specialist shops and our bakery, we rely 100% on LED technology, which significantly reduces electricity consumption. All of this is part of our commitment to environmental protection, so that our descendants will still be able to bake the region’s finest specialities and bread rolls 100 years from now.

Swisstainable

We are part of the Swisstainable sustainability programme and are classified at Level I – ‘committed’. The Swisstainable sustainability programme brings together businesses and organisations across the entire Swiss tourism sector. Through our participation, we are committed to continuous sustainable business development and are implementing the following specific measures:
